Children with autism will not be able to connect with other children or adults and will not understand what has happened to them. From very early ages this has been shown a recognizable problem when one parent or the other read to their child. Children without autism will look at the book and point to the pictures and those with autism usually do not.

This simple act is one of the social skills that contributes to learning language and social skills at a later age.

Depending upon the child as they get older, they may spend more time with others while some will not want to be with anyone but themselves. Many children with autism are able to have a somewhat normal life as they become an adult.

Autism will cause children to not be able to learn or acquire the same skills as their friends. These children also have more of a natural intelligence than those who have lower than normal IQs.

There are many that have above average skills in certain subjects such as mathematics - they are classified as savante.
